Mt. Whitney had lost seven straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 2-22 to make it eight. They lost 19-3 to the Golden West Trailblazers. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Kira Kunkel made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Golden West, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.
On Golden West's side, Alyssa Serrano made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Serrano was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Brinley Burton was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Reann Boyd was another key player, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.
Coming up, Mt. Whitney is taking a road trip to face off against Redwood at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rangers' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Golden West, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-4 defeat against El Diamante on the 11th.
