Valley is 2-7 against the Mustangs since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Valley Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Claude Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Valley will be looking to extend their current 28-game winning streak.
Silverton typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Valley proved too difficult a challenge. They strolled past the Owls with points to spare, taking the game 48-29. Given Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while the Owls are ranked 501st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Trinity Schlueter was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Laney Edwards, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Claude put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 62-9 victory over Hedley. The win was some much needed relief for Claude as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Valley pushed their record up to 28-2 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.3 points per game. Claude's record is now 7-9.
Valley was able to grind out a solid victory over the Mustangs in their previous meeting back in January, winning 55-46. Does Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
