The Bayfield Wolverines will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Pagosa Springs Pirates at 7:00 p.m.
Bayfield fell victim to Delta's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were beaten by the Panthers 49-0. While losing is never fun, Bayfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 141st, while Delta is ranked 30th).
Meanwhile, Pagosa Springs entered their tilt with Salida with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Pagosa Springs blew past Salida, posting a 42-12 win on the road.
Pagosa Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Lindahl led the charge by rushing for 109 yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Lucero, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Bayfield's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Pagosa Springs, their victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 5-3.
Bayfield came up short against Pagosa Springs when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 39-33. Thankfully for Bayfield, Aaron Aucoin (who rushed for 185 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 54 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
