Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) reach Monday night's semifinals with a pair of monster performances.
Friday in first-round action against
Wayne (Huber Heights, Ohio), Simmons put up 24 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as the Eagles won their ninth game in a row at City of Palms dating back to the 2012 tourney.
Then in quarterfinal play against
St. Francis (Alpharetta, Ga.) the Australian star went off for 37 points and 18 rebounds as Montverde won 62-59. Included was an "off-the-backboard to thyself" for two masterpiece that is shown at the 1:05 mark of the video above.
Montverde Academy is aiming for its third City of Palms crown in a row. Simmons was the tournament MVP in 2013 and the early leader to repeat this year. The Eagles face
Trinity (Louisville, Ky.) in the semifinals.
