While it was all tied up 28-28 at halftime, the American Eagles were not quite the Irvington Vikings's equal in the second half on Thursday. American took a 58-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of Irvington. American has struggled against Irvington recently, as their game on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
American's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiratraj Sanghera, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Sanghera has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 17 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanvir Chatrath, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
American's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Irvington, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. American on the road again on Wednesday and play against Newark Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Newark Memorial has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since January 4. As for Irvington, they will head out on the road to take on Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
