The Leadership Academy Falcons will challenge the Atkins Camels at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leadership Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Leadership Academy and Cornerstone Charter, and Leadership Academy kept the tradition alive. The Falcons walked away with a 9-5 win over the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Leadership Academy got a big performance out of Emory Maxwell, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Maxwell is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Hopkins, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Leadership Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Atkins brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Carver on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Camels as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Emma Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Davis was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Olivia Haas was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Ava Fleming was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3.
Leadership Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Atkins, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Atkins' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Leadership Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .465. It's a different story for Atkins, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Leadership Academy's hitters?
Leadership Academy took their victory against Atkins in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Camels turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
