Rocky Hill and Newington are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2018, but likely not for long. The Terriers will be playing at home against the Nor'easters at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rocky Hill has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Rocky Hill is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Southington just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 12-3 to the Blue Knights. The contest marked the Terriers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Lianna Tejada made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles. Another player making a difference was Ally Killoran, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Newington didn't have quite enough to beat Maloney on Thursday and fell 11-10.
Newington got a massive performance out of Kiley Connors, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Connors has been hot recently, having posted at least one triple the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Stegmaier, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one double.
Newington has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Rocky Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 8-2.
Newington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Rocky Hill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Newington, though, as they've been averaging 11.8 hits. Given Rocky Hill's sizable advantage in that area, the Nor'easters will need to find a way to close that gap.
Rocky Hill couldn't quite get it done against Newington when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 11-6. Can the Terriers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
