Softball Recap: Chugiak Starts Season with Victory at Home

Chugiak gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears with a sharp 15-1 win. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The team relied heavily on Isabel Sjostrand, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Brooklyn McCormick was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Chugiak always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Juneau-Douglas only posted an OBP of .400.

Juneau-Douglas' defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chugiak is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will take on Dimond at 4:00 p.m. on the 19th. As for Juneau-Douglas, they will head out to challenge Kodiak at 12:40 p.m. on Friday.
