Steinbrenner is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Alonso is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. Steinbrenner will host Alonso at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Steinbrenner will be strutting in after a victory while Alonso will be coming in after a loss.
Steinbrenner will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Strawberry Crest on Friday. Steinbrenner walked away with an 11-7 win over Strawberry Crest. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Chargers: they've now won six in a row.
Madi Adams looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Steinbrenner got a massive performance out of Callie Bergen, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. What's more, Bergen posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Sophie Luaces, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Alonso unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak. They fell just short of Steinbrenner by a score of 2-0.
Karina Lozada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Alonso saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makenna Sturgis, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Alonso's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Steinbrenner, their win bumped their record up to 11-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Steinbrenner has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Alonso struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Steinbrenner came out on top in a nail-biter against Alonso in their previous matchup on Thursday, sneaking past 2-0. Will Steinbrenner repeat their success, or does Alonso has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
