Middle Creek is 2-8 against Green Hope since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Middle Creek has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
On Wednesday, Middle Creek strolled past Cary with points to spare, taking the game 62-47. Given Middle Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Cary is ranked 265th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Middle Creek got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joi Pergerson out in front who scored 22 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Sarah Furst was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Green Hope came up short against Cary on Tuesday and fell 47-36. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Green Hope has scored all season.
Abigail Brown put forth a good effort for the losing side as she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chloe Lee, who scored nine points.
Middle Creek's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Green Hope, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Middle Creek have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Green Hope struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.2 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Middle Creek strolled past Green Hope in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 57-43. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Brown, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Middle Creek still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
