Westhill is 2-8 against Chittenango since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will head out to challenge the Bears at 4:30 p.m. Westhill has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Marcellus hit Westhill with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Warriors lost 14-4 to the Mustangs. Surprisingly, this marked the Warriors' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Grace Horning made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Cadence Ramsing, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Chittenango had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Bearcats. Considering the Bears have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Lauren Machan was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Danica Oppenheimer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Izzy McClusky was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
Chittenango lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Chittenango's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.5 runs over those games. As for Westhill, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Westhill has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Chittenango struggles in that department as they've averaged .492. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Westhill might still be hurting after the 14-7 loss they got from Chittenango in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
