Vela entered their tilt with Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North on Friday with ten consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 11. They managed a 60-56 victory over the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North Raiders. Given the Sabercats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Raiders are ranked 768th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Vela's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jp Olivarez, who posted 15 points along with seven assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Lopez, who went 6 for 10 en route to 12 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Olivarez wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Vela was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North only posted seven assists.

Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Mason Lopez, who went 10 of 13 on his way to 25 points, and Isaiah Garza, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Lopez's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Matthew Archer also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Vela pushed their record up to 27-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points per game. As for Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-14.

Vela has already played their next matchup (against McAllen Memorial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 75-42 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Memorial on the 20th.
