Basketball Recap: Emma Mcvey Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Southport

Franklin Central won the last time they faced Southport and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Franklin Central Flashes enjoyed a cozy 66-50 win over the Southport Cardinals.

Franklin Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Mcvey, who went 7 of 15 en route to 20 points and four steals. That's the most points Mcvey has posted since back in November of 2024. Payton Duvall was another key player, going 7 for 10 on her way to 18 points and seven rebounds.

Franklin Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southport only racked up eight assists.

When it comes to explaining why Southport lost, don't look at Ryleigh Hamilton. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards. Hamilton continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kassie Mcmasters, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds.

Franklin Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Southport, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 12-8 record.

Franklin Central will head out on the road to square off against Fishers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Fishers knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Franklin Central likes a good challenge. As for Southport, a feisty cat fight is on tap when the Southport Cardinals challenge the Greenfield-Central Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Southport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
