Leonard has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will square off against The Bells Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Leonard will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 719th, while Bells is ranked 288th).
Leonard fell victim to Gunter's stalwart defense on Thursday and couldn't make it onto the board. They were outmatched by the Tigers at home and fell 63-0. Having soared to a lofty 59 points in the game before, Leonard couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Bells entered their tilt with Lone Oak with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Bells took their game on the road on Friday with ease, bagging a 59-14 victory over Lone Oak. Considering Bells has won five matches by more than 26 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Bells' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryson Thompson, who rushed for 102 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Thompson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Allen, who rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Gunter's win bumped their season record to 9-0 while Leonard's loss dropped theirs to 5-4.
Leonard was taken down by Bells 56-20 when the teams last played back in November of 2022. Can Leonard avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
