The Woodland Beavers will square off against the Hockinson Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Woodland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Woodland took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let R.A. Long get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Beavers have beaten the Lumberjacks the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Lumberjacks has come to flipping the script.
Addi Christensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ainsleigh Utter, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Emma Barrow, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Woodland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 8-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hockinson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Ridgefield, falling 21-1.
Woodland's victory bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Hockinson, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
Hockinson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woodland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Hockinson, though, as they've been averaging 10.3 hits. Given Woodland's sizable advantage in that area, the Hawks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Woodland took their win against Hockinson when the teams last played two weeks ago by a conclusive 15-4 score. Do the Beavers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
