Saguaro is 8-2 against St. Mary since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Sabercats are taking a road trip to take on the Knights at 6:00 p.m. Saguaro will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Saguaro is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 24-3 margin over Marcos de Niza on Thursday. The Sabercats not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3, 2024 (when they won 22-0).
Malina Morones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Morones was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Saguaro got a massive performance out of Hailey Holliday, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most runs Holliday has posted since back in March. Tyler Moag was another key player, going a perfect 5-for-5 with five RBI and two doubles.
Saguaro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's lost 19-4 to Cactus Shadows on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
St. Mary's saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Meredith Schager, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI. Izzy Nunez also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Saguaro has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Mary's, their loss dropped their record down to 10-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Saguaro has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Saguaro beat St. Mary's 8-5 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Do the Sabercats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
