The Denver Christian Thunder will be taking part in a tournament against the Rangely Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Denver Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
If Denver Christian beats Rangely with nine runs on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Thunder skirted past Prospect Ridge Academy 9-7. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunder.
James Lord and Caleb Stork were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lord pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Stork tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Lord scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Stork went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI Stork has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Elijah Whitfield, who went 2-for-4 with two triples and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Patrick Elson, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Meanwhile, Rangely scored first but ultimately less than North Fork in their contest on Saturday. They came up short against the Miners, falling 14-4. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Rangely saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marcos Quintana, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Bradley Lambros also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Denver Christian's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Rangely, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.
Rangely's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Denver Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .431. It's a different story for Rangely, though, as they've only averaged .323. Will they be able to contain Denver Christian's hitters?
