With two weeks left in the high school football season, the MaxPreps National Championship picture is becoming a lot more clear. No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) rolled to a 44-7 win over Serra (San Mateo) in the CIF Open Division state championship. It was the Monarchs 10th win over a MaxPreps Top 100 opponent.
The Monarchs won their third CIF Open Division championship since 2017. They beat De La Salle (Concord) in 2017 and 2018.
No. 2 Westlake (Austin) made a statement in the UIL Texas 6A Division 2 semifinals with a dominant 45-14 win over No. 7 Katy, showing why they belong in the conversation to finish the year at No. 1. The Chaps have won 39 games in a row and snapped the Tigers streak of 22 consecutive wins. Clemson-bound quarterback
Cade Klubnik threw for over 300 yards and five touchdowns. Todd Dodge will be going for his third consecutive state title on Dec. 18 against Guyer (Denton).
No. 20 Duncanville won its 13th straight game since a 45-3 season-opening loss against No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) with a dominant 35-9 win over No. 6 Southlake Carroll (Southlake). They controlled the game from the start and dominated on both sides of the ball. The Panthers will face North Shore (Houston) in the UIL Texas 6A Division 1 state championship for the third time in four years on Dec. 18. The Mustangs beat Lake Travis (Austin) 49-21 in the other semifinal.
No. 3 Collins Hill (Suwanee) won its first state title in school history with a 24-8 win over No. 19 Milton in the Georgia AAAAAAA state championship. Five-star
Travis Hunter had over 150 yards receiving and one touchdown as the Eagles finished the year 15-0 winning every game by at least 15 points.
No. 23 Saguaro (Scottsdale) snapped No. 16 Chandler's streak of five consecutive state titles in the Arizona Open Division state championship on Saturday. The Sabercats pulled out a 20-15 win and won their 13th state title (1995, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021) in school history.
