The Sandia Matadors put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 74-26 victory over Santa Fe at home. Fans of Sandia have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Leading Sandia to victory were Sydney Benally and Hope Giddings. Benally scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and six assists, while Giddings scored 22 points along with six rebounds and five steals. The match was Benally's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kaiyah Benally, who scored 11 points.
Sandia pushed their record up to 6-0 with that win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Santa Fe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sandia will face off against Atrisco Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 22nd. Santa Fe won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Centennial at 3:00 p.m. on December 15th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Centennial is ranked 40th, while Santa Fe is ranked 49th).
