The Bad Axe Hatchets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Vassar. Bad Axe was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vassar apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January.
Austin Long continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Vassar, scoring 27 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Long has scored at least a third of Vassar's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Brown, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds.
Bad Axe dropped their record down to 6-10 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Vassar, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 5-15 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bad Axe will challenge Unionville-Sebewaing at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Bad Axe has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Vassar's road trip will continue as they head out to face Laker at 7:30 p.m. on February 14th.
