Basketball Recap: Guilford Extends Winning Streak to Five

Guilford entered their tilt with Belvidere on Friday with four consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Belvidere Bucs 69-45. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Guilford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaleese Williams, who went 8-for-17 to rack up 18 points in addition to eight assists and seven rebounds. That's the most points Williams has posted since back in December of 2024. Baylee Sandine was another key player, going 6-for-13 on her way to 18 points.

Guilford smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Several Bucs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emma Pierson, who went 12-for-23 en route to 26 points. That was a full 57.8% of Belvidere's points, marking the sixth time in a row Pierson has had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Labeau, who put up seven points along with 11 boards and seven assists.

Guilford's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 25-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points over those games. As for Belvidere, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 16-14 record this season.

Coming up, Guilford will take on McHenry at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Guilford is facing McHenry at the right time seeing as McHenry is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Belvidere, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-38 victory against Belvidere North on the 15th.
