The Jefferson Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Sabine Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Jefferson took a loss when they played away from home on October 3rd, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed two weeks ago. They blew past White Oak 45-7. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 26-0.
Tre Moss had a dynamite game, rushing for 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also picking up 93 receiving yards and one score.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Jefferson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 277 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.
Another reason for the win was Jefferson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 4.5 sacks. Markevion Tatum refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. Jefferson got some further help from Kobin Tomlinson: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Sabine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a 41-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of White Oak. On the bright side, the 34- point effort marked the Cardinals' highest-scoring contest to date.
Jefferson will have to contain Griffin Dehoyos as he made an impact in Sabine's last game. He rushed for 161 yards and a pair of TDs on only nine carries, and also threw for 147 yards and one touchdown.
Sabine's loss dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Jefferson, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Jefferson has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 168.3 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Sabine, though, as they've been averaging only 86 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Jefferson against Sabine in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 74-12 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cardinals' Hudson Mcnatt, who rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores on only 12 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bulldogs to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
