The Haverford Fords will head out on the road to square off against the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Haverford fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Garnet Valley on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 6-5. The Fords have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lucy Ardizzi led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI. Maya Hubley also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Even though they lost, Haverford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Plymouth Whitemarsh was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 6-3 to Perkiomen Valley.
Rian Reed spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Kalina Childers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Haverford's record now sits at 2-2. As for Plymouth Whitemarsh, their record is now 1-4.
Haverford's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. Haverford has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Plymouth Whitemarsh, though, as they've been averaging only 0.4 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Haverford continue to outrun the ball?
Haverford came up short against Plymouth Whitemarsh when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Haverford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
