The Mason Comets will challenge the Walnut Hills Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mason is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, Mason turned things around against Olentangy Orange on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pioneers, sneaking past 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Comets have posted since April 28th.
Brett Gandert looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Sam Davies, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Grant O'Connor was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Walnut Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Little Miami, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.
Aidan Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Mason's victory bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Walnut Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.
Walnut Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Mason has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Walnut Hills, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Mason keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Mason came out on top in a nail-biter against Walnut Hills when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Comets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
