The Lugoff-Elgin Demons's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight defeat. They were the victim of a rough 65-45 loss at the hands of Westwood. While losing is never fun, Lugoff-Elgin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Redhawks are ranked third).
Lugoff-Elgin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Marcus Clark, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. JT Williams was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for TJ Bell, who scored 17 points along with five assists and five rebounds for Westwood. Bell has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last nine times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dontae Walters, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Lugoff-Elgin has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Westwood, the victory was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-1.
Lugoff-Elgin will head out on the road to take on the Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Richland Northeast is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Demons a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Westwood will take on the Blazers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ridge View's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 16 matchups.
