The Cathedral Fighting Irish will take on the Yorktown Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Cathedral will come into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Cathedral proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 14) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out East Central 3-2.
Cathedral's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Anna Moore, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Yorktown was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over Northeastern. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Olivia Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Yorktown got a big performance out of Abbey Booher, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Holmes, who earned one run and four stolen bases.
Cathedral's victory was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-0. As for Yorktown, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cathedral has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've averaged .468. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cathedral skirted past Yorktown 3-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Fighting Irish have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
