Baseball Recap: Roanoke Rapids Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Roanoke Rapids, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Franklinton Red Rams with a sharp 8-1 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ayden Brantley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Roanoke Rapids: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-9 otherwise. Brantley was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Collin Elias was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Bryce Manning, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Roanoke Rapids was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Roanoke Rapids' win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-9. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Franklinton, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 14 of their last 16 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-17 record this season.

Roanoke Rapids didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-1 win against Nash Central on the 29th. As for Franklinton, they have also already played their next game, a 13-1 victory against Kerr-Vance Academy on the 30th.
