The Longwood Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 41-19 defeat at the hands of Tilden. While losing is never fun, Longwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 544th, while Tilden is ranked 85th).
Rachel Ruiz was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 20 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Tilden's points. Another player making a difference was Antonella Villegas-Sarmiento, who scored 10 points.
Longwood's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Tilden, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Longwood will take on Hancock at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Tilden, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Solorio at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Solorio: 26.3, Tilden: 14.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
