After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Greenwood Christian, Newberry Academy were happy to have found some success on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Whitmire and snuck past 34-31. This was payback for Newberry Academy, who suffered a 39-17 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Despite the loss, Whitmire still got an impressive performance from Imari Brown, who scored 18 points along with 4 steals. Another player making a difference was Trystan Samples, who scored 4 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The victory got Newberry Academy back to even at 1-1. As for Whitmire, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newberry Academy will square off against Richard Winn Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Whitmire won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lewisville at 6:00 p.m. on December 1st. Hopefully Lewisville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Wednesday.
