Aldine hasn't had much luck against Nimitz recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Aldine Mustangs will face off against the Nimitz Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
Aldine is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 18th straight game on Tuesday. They were beaten by Dekaney 50-15. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-8.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Nevaeh Adame and Mireya Molina, who each put up three points. Molina also led the team in rebounds with eight. Zarayah Tucker took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nimitz). They took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 74-16 win over MacArthur. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 23 points or more this season.
Aldine better keep an eye on Aniah Richard. She was instrumental in Nimitz's win, going 9 for 15 on her way to 25 points and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.
Nimitz smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.
The victory (which was Nimitz's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-8. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.5 points. As for Aldine, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-18.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Aldine has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 21.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Nimitz struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25.3 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Aldine was taken down by Nimitz 71-10 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Aldine was down 41-7.
