The Lawrenceville Indians came tearing into Tuesday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past North Clay/Clay City with points to spare, taking the game 62-44. Given Lawrenceville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while North Clay/Clay City is ranked 453rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lawrenceville was led to victory by Maddox Pargin and Bryant Jenkins. Pargin scored 20 points along with nine rebounds, while Jenkins dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Pargin has scored at least 25% of Lawrenceville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Sanders, who scored five points along with three steals.
Lawrenceville is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season. As for North Clay/Clay City, they have fallen quite a ways from their 21-10 record last season and are now at 5-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lawrenceville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Robinson at 7:15 p.m. on January 10th. Robinson is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for North Clay/Clay City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Altamont at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
