Despite the defeat, Hammond Central saw an underclassman step up: Indiah Hutchinson scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. The contest was Hutchinson's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Kennedy Blakely was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Hammond Central struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Hammond Central's loss dropped their record down to 13-4. As for Hinsdale South, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Hammond Central is on the road again on January 6, 2024 and play against Lake Station Edison at 1:30 p.m. on January 6, 2024. Hinsdale South won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Minooka at 9:00 a.m. on December 29th. Minooka will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 268th, while Hinsdale South is ranked 86th).
