Basketball Recap: Saylor Clay Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Laurel Hill

Washburn picked up another tournament win on Monday. They walked away with a 64-52 victory over the Laurel Hill Hoboes.

Washburn's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Saylor Clay, who went 9 for 20 on her way to 24 points. The contest was Clay's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Williams, who posted 20 points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Laurel Hill still got an impressive performance from Aiyana Dixon, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 28 boards. That was a full 67.3% of Laurel Hill's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Dracen Waters was another key player, putting up five points.

Washburn is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Laurel Hill, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-4.

Washburn wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 51-49 loss against Claiborne on the 3rd. As for Laurel Hill, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-24 victory against Destin on the 3rd.
