Harrisburg Christian is 0-10 against Mount Calvary Christian since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Harrisburg Christian will head out on the road to challenge the Mount Calvary Christian Chargers at 4:45 p.m. Hopefully Harrisburg Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Harrisburg Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Newport, but they still walked away with a 41-37 win. The win made it back-to-back wins for Harrisburg Christian.
Cooper Gesswein and Eli Stargel were among the main playmakers for Harrisburg Christian as the former scored 14 points along with two blocks and the latter scored eight points along with four steals. Stargel has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Sunday, who scored six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Mount Calvary Christian strolled past New Covenant Christian with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 62-45. The win was just what Mount Calvary Christian needed coming off of a 81-58 defeat in their prior game.
It was another big night for Avery Kopcha, who scored 30 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Trey Robinson, who scored 12 points.
The win got Harrisburg Christian back to even at 7-7. Mount Calvary Christian's record now sits at 7-8.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Stargel and Kopcha. Stargel has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 18.2 points, 3.2 steals, and 5.8 rebounds. For his part, Kopcha has averaged 20.3 points, 3.1 steals, and 4.1 assists.
Harrisburg Christian ended up a good deal behind Mount Calvary Christian when the teams last played on January 8th, losing 67-52. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Kopcha, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Now that Harrisburg Christian knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
