The Edgerton Bulldogs will take on the Montpelier Locomotives at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Edgerton's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Montpelier's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Edgerton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Hilltop 5-4. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Maddox Baker made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Baker wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kellen Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Montpelier, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Edon on Thursday. The Locomotives haven't had any issues with the Bombers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Like Edgerton, Montpelier also got a great game from a two-way player: Kenneth Smeltzer. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts Smeltzer has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Wesley Hartsock, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. CJ Fidler was another key player, earning two runs and one stolen base.
Montpelier's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Edgerton, their record is now 16-10.
Edgerton might still be hurting after the 9-2 defeat they got from Montpelier in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
