Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Charlestown

Charlestown extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping them up to 5-1. They skirted past the Scottsburg Warriors 20-17. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 34-0 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Charlestown's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Slone Roberts led the charge by picking up 153 receiving yards. Roberts was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 56 yards.

Charlestown's run defense was locked in: Scottsburg could only muster 3.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Jackson Broady for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Charlestown; they were averaging 6.9yards per carry per game earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 3.8 per game.

Charlestown's defense didn't let Nathan Byrd, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jordan Guerrero and Jaxon Miller, who racked up four sacks between them. Another thorn in Scottsburg's side was Broady, who made 12 total tackles and defended one pass.

Having lost for the first time this season, Scottsburg fell to 5-1. They gained 56 more yards on the day, but it was Charlestown that made the best use of them.

Defeat or not, Scottsburg got some senior leadership from Garrett Boling and Byrd. Boling picked up 148 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Byrd threw for 300 yards and one TD. Boling's receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 114 receiving yards. Scottsburg also got a significant boost from Landon Shuck, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.

Charlestown has already played their next matchup, a 27-26 victory against Corydon Central on the 3rd. As for Scottsburg, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 70-7 win against Clarksville on the 3rd.
