Willian Canizalez Correa was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Kingsbury: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-6 otherwise.
In other batting news, Deyber Lovera Marin was a standout: he fired off two home runs while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Woodruff, who scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Kingsbury lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Overton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They came up short against Memphis Central, falling 13-5.
Julian Tallent was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
The victory got Kingsbury back to even at 6-6. As for Overton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-4-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Kingsbury hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .398. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Kingsbury might still be hurting after the 18-8 defeat they got from Overton when the teams last played back in March. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
