The West Wendover Wolverines waltzed into their match on Saturday with 12 straight wins but they left with 13. They enjoyed a cozy 57-39 victory over Pershing County. West Wendover pushed the score to 48-28 by the end of the third, a deficit the Mustangs cut but never quite recovered from.
Adryan Carlos was his usual excellent self, scoring 19 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks. He is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Osvaldo Carrillo, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Pershing County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aaron Kienbaum, who scored eight points. Trenton Rhodes was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
West Wendover's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Pershing County, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season.
West Wendover and the Longhorns will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Battle Mountain is ranked 65th, while the Wolverines are ranked 40th). As for Pershing County, they and the Lions will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Yerington focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday.
