Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Kennedy Thunderbirds walked away with it. They put the hurt on Santa Ynez with a sharp 42-21 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for Kennedy, who have now won seven matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Kennedy found their leader in underclassman Jace Demacabalin, who rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Demacabalin hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for 11 straight games. Damian Flores was another key contributor, rushing for 85 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries.
When it comes to explaining why Santa Ynez lost, one person who can't be blamed is Vince Casey. Despite the final result, he picked up 208 receiving yards. Casey's longest reception was for an incredible 71 yards.
The victory makes it two in a row for Kennedy and bumps their season record up to 9-2. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 21.5 points. As for Santa Ynez, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 4-7.
Kennedy will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Kerman at 7:00 p.m. Both teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games. Santa Ynez does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
