The Kermit Yellow Jackets will challenge the Dalhart Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kermit will be strutting in after a win while Dalhart will be coming in after a loss.
Kermit took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 33-14 victory over Brownfield. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellow Jackets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Armando Urias produced another solid performance rushing for 232 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 67 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Aalijah Navarrette, who rushed for 75 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Kermit was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 347 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Kermit's defense and their five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Aaron Rodriguez and Navarrette, who racked up four sacks between them. Rodriguez also made seven total tackles, which is notable because Kermit is 2-1 when he posts at least four total tackles, but 0-6 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Dalhart entered their contest against Shallowater on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wolves fell 42-34 to the Mustangs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game two weeks ago (31), the Wolves still had to take the loss.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Hunter Trusler and Cooper Martin. Martin had a great game and threw for 259 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Meanwhile, Trusler was balling out in the loss, rushing for 155 yards and three scores, while also throwing for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Dalhart's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-2. As for Kermit, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-7.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Kermit has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 148.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Dalhart struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 259.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
