Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tucker Duren, who posted 14 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brayden Treadaway, who scored six points in addition to five boards and five steals.
Meanwhile, Ezekiel Academy had just enough and edged Victory Christian Academy out 64-61 on Monday. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 126th, while the Eagles are ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wiregrass better focus on containing Elijah Taylor and Kelson Free as the pair were huge in Ezekiel Academy's win. Taylor went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc on his way to 27 points and seven rebounds, while Free had 14 points along with five assists and five steals. Caden Pond was another key player, putting up nine points and five boards.
Ezekiel Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 18 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.0 points per game. As for Wiregrass, their loss dropped their record down to 9-21.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Wiregrass has been crashing the rebounds this season, having averaged 30 boards per game. However, it's not like Ezekiel Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Wiregrass lost to Ezekiel Academy on the road by a decisive 61-43 margin when the teams last played back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Ezekiel Academy's Gerard Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Now that Wiregrass knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
