It was a good run, but the Duncanville Panthers and Pantherettes unfortunately witnessed the end of their 22-game winning streak dating back to last season on Saturday. They lost to DeSoto on the road by a decisive 49-35 margin. Duncanville was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as DeSoto apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Duncanville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Durham, who rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Durham was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. Dakorien Moore was in the mix as well, providing Duncanville with two touchdowns.
DeSoto's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darius Bailey led the charge by throwing for 268 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes. Daylon Singleton was another key contributor, picking up 179 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was DeSoto's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for 13 sacks. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Duncanville's loss dropped their record down to 9-1. As for DeSoto, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Duncanville will take on Mansfield Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mansfield Legacy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 340th, while Duncanville is ranked third). As for DeSoto, they will head out on the road to face off against Mansfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
