The DeSoto Eagles had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They breezed by Willis at home to the tune of 65-31. The victory was just business as usual for DeSoto, who after 12 games remain undefeated this season.
Darius Bailey was his usual excellent self, throwing for 137 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Marvin Duffey, who rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to DeSoto's defensive line and their four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jamari Laye and Keylan Abrams who racked up four sacks between them.
Despite the loss, Willis still got an impressive performance from Derek Lagway, who threw for 335 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 112 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries. Lagway was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 68 yards. Jalen Mickens was another key contributor, picking up 100 receiving yards and a touchdown.
DeSoto has yet to lose a match at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 29 points. As for Willis, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-1.
DeSoto will look to defend their home field on Friday against Cedar Hill at 7:00 p.m. Cedar Hill is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Willis does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
