Berthoud has gone a perfect 4-0 against Valley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Berthoud Spartans will challenge the Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m.
Berthoud is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since December 18, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of Timnath by a score of 68-65. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Cubs are ranked 35th).

Berthoud's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Avery Pfohl, who went 9-for-17 to rack up 30 points and eight boards, and Sofia Sigg, who shot 55% from the field on her way to 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The matchup was Pfohl's seventh in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Violet Hidalgo, who posted six points.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They walked away with a 37-30 win over Wray on Thursday.
Berthoud better keep an eye on Nevaeh Jimenez. She was instrumental in Valley's win, dropping a double-double with 11 points and 20 rebounds. Jimenez has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Brianna Orona, who scored six points and eight rebounds.
Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They are 9-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.
Valley has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. Berthoud dropped their record down to 13-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Berthoud has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Berthoud strolled past Valley when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 57-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Berthoud since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
