The Wilkes Central Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 11th straight defeat. They fell just short of Surry Central by a score of 49-47. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilkes Central in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Wilkes Central still got an impressive performance from Anna Rollins, who scored 25 points along with six steals. Rollins hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games.
Surry Central found their leader in underclassman Presley Smith, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Smith has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Leonard, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Wilkes Central has been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season. As for Surry Central, their win bumped their record up to 11-5.
Wilkes Central will head out on the road to challenge the Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. East Surry presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in North Carolina (the Cardinals are ranked 104th, while the Eagles are ranked 389th). As for Surry Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. North Wilkes is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
