After a string of three wins, the Verdugo Hills Dons's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 69-59 to Grant. Verdugo Hills has not had much luck with the Lancers recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Verdugo Hills lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being William Gharabekyan, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. Gharabekyan hasn't dropped below 11 rebounds for four straight games. Alexander Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grant to victory, but perhaps none more so than WILLIAM OVERTON, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks. OVERTON is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Omree Bentov, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Verdugo Hills' defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11. As for Grant, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-6 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Verdugo Hills won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on January 31st. Chavez is out to stop a six-game streak of losses at home. As for Grant, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on January 31st. Arleta will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 560th, while the Lancers are ranked 226th).
