Auburn Mountainview hasn't had much luck against Auburn Riverside recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lions will take on the Ravens at 7:00 p.m. Auburn Mountainview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.9 runs per game this season.
Auburn Mountainview will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Decatur on Friday. The Lions put the hurt on the Golden Gators with a sharp 15-5 victory. Considering the Lions have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brynna Erdmann made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Tessa Trippy was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Mia Heigh was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Auburn Mountainview always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Decatur only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Auburn Riverside was able to grind out a solid win over Kentridge on Friday, taking the game 8-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ravens.
Auburn Riverside also got a great performance from Kylee Curtis as she tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits.
At the plate, Hannah Potter was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Seneca Aarstad also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Auburn Riverside's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Auburn Mountainview, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.
Monday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Auburn Mountainview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .458. However, it's not like Auburn Riverside struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Auburn Mountainview might still be hurting after the 21-6 loss they got from Auburn Riverside in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
