The Chenango Forks Blue Devils were the 59-51 winner over the Waverly Wolverines when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Chenango Forks opened the new year with a less-than-successful 67-54 loss to Waverly. While losing is never fun, Chenango Forks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Waverly is ranked 51st).
Despite the loss, Chenango Forks still got an impressive performance from Stephen Samsel, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. Samsel scored a full 37% of Chenango Forks' points, the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Walker Paske was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Chenango Forks has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Waverly, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Seton Catholic Central the next time they take the court. Chenango Forks will head out to face Seton Catholic Central at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, while Waverly will head out to face them at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
