The Columbia Tigers can now show off six landslide victories after their most recent match on Saturday. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 51-17 victory over Leon. Given Columbia's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Leon is ranked 407th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Columbia to victory were JOLENA GARDNER and MARIAH COX. GARDNER dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds, while COX dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals. GARDNER hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for five straight games. AYESHA BROXEY was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
Mary grace Parker and Naomi Similen certainly did their best on Saturday to try and avoid the loss. Parker scored eight points, while Similen scored six points.
Columbia now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Leon, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.
Columbia will be playing at home against Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Santa Fe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Thursday. Leon on the road again on Tuesday and play against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. The timing is sure in Lincoln's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Leon has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
