Tri-County recap Sept. 26, 2012
Clinton extended the longest winning streak in Tri-County this week by beating Madison, 34-6. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Redskins.
Clinton moved up to 114 from 231 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Scott Mcnitt's team was able to make the jump by beating the Trojans 34-6.
Cullen Zimmerman was the best wideout in the league this week as the Redskins defeated Madison. Zimmerman racked up three receptions for 33 yards. Mathew Sexton helped Clinton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 10 yards.
Leighton Merritt put up the best numbers through the air as Britton-Macon/Deerfield fell to Whiteford. He finished with a total of one completions for five yards and one touchdown. Merritt's favorite target this week was Tristan Pizana, who caught one pass for 28 yards.
Colin Poore was the most productive running back in Tri-County this week. In eight carries, he ran for 180 yards as Clinton defeated Taz Wallace's team. Teammate Sexton added to the ground attack by rushing for 140 yards.
The Redskins' TJ Baker and Zimmerman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Baker has thrown for 620 yards this season, while Zimmerman, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 11 catches for 184 yards. Merritt from the Patriots leads the league in rushing with 575 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Summerfield takes on the Bobcats. The Bulldogs are currently in third, while Whiteford is in second.
Summerfield led the league in scoring this week after putting up 36 points on Morenci.
